How to Clean Your HUVE Perform: A Three-Stage Care Guide

How to Clean Your HUVE Perform: A Three-Stage Care Guide

Your HUVE Perform is designed to make hydrogen-rich water a simple part of everyday life. A considered cleaning routine helps keep the water chamber fresh, manage mineral buildup and support consistent performance over time.

There are three stages to effective care: running the built-in cleaning mode, descaling with diluted white vinegar, and disinfecting with a suitable hypochlorous acid solution. Use each as needed in your routine; all three are not required at every clean. Always empty and thoroughly rinse the bottle between different cleaning solutions.

This guide draws on the practical cleaning techniques shared by H2HUBB in Why You Need to Clean Your Hydrogen Water Bottle – And How to Do It Right!, alongside the cleaning settings for HUVE Perform Version 1 and Version 2.

At a glance: Press the button three times quickly to activate cleaning mode. HUVE Perform V1 runs for 3 minutes; HUVE Perform Version 2 runs for 10 minutes. Use filtered water for this stage. Vinegar and hypochlorous acid are separate, unpowered cleaning steps.

Before you begin

Disconnect the charging cable and empty the bottle. Do not immerse the base. Keep its exterior, charging port and electronics dry; only the internal water-contact surfaces should contact the cleaning liquids.

Your HUVE Perform allows the water chamber to be detached from the cap and base, handwash the chamber with mild, unscented dishwashing liquid and rinse thoroughly before reattaching it. Keep detergent away from the hydrogen generator and lid, as H2HUBB advises in the video. Remove only parts designed for customer cleaning; leave the hydrogen cell assembled.

Stage 1: Activate cleaning mode with filtered water (Weekly)

Start with the HUVE Perform’s built-in cleaning mode as part of regular maintenance.

  1. Fill the assembled bottle with fresh, filtered drinking water to its normal fill level.
  2. Press the button three times in quick succession to activate cleaning mode.
  3. The bottle LEDs will glow RED during the cleaning cycle.
  4. Allow the complete cleaning cycle to finish.
  5. Empty the cleaning water and rinse the chamber with fresh, filtered water.

Our recommendation for V1 owners

For optimal ongoing performance, we recommend running multiple complete 3-minute cleaning cycles with filtered water. Empty the bottle and refill with fresh, filtered water between cycles, then activate cleaning mode again with three quick presses.

Cleaning mode supports regular maintenance. A complete care routine also addresses mineral deposits and the hygiene of the lid, threads and water-contact surfaces.

Always discard cleaning water. Refill with fresh drinking water before preparing your next serve.

Note: The bottle may be charged during this process, while being careful not to get any liquid on the charging port.

Stage 2: Descale with a 30% white vinegar mix (Every 2 Weeks)

Minerals can accumulate around the hydrogen cell over time, particularly when using harder water. Descaling helps remove these deposits from the internal water-contact surfaces.

Use a mixture of approximately 30% ordinary household white vinegar and 70% filtered water. This means diluting household vinegar, rather than using a 30% acetic acid product or concentrated cleaning vinegar.

Simple example: Mix 30 mL of household white vinegar with 70 mL of filtered water. Prepare enough solution to cover the internal electrode surface. The bottle does not need to be full for this process, 100ml is sufficient.

  1. The bottle may be charged during this process, while being careful not to get any liquid on the charging port.
  2. Add the prepared vinegar-and-water mixture to the chamber, covering the internal electrode surface without wetting external electronics.
  3. Activate the cleaning cycle and once completed, Leave it to soak for approximately 30 minutes.
  4. Empty the solution completely.
  5. Rinse thoroughly several times with fresh, filtered water to remove the vinegar before continuing.

Keep the bottle switched off throughout the soak. Do not activate cleaning mode or a hydrogen-generation cycle while vinegar is inside.

If deposits remain after cleaning, contact HUVE for advice before extending the soak or using a stronger mixture. Avoid scraping or brushing the electrode surface.

Watch H2HUBB’s vinegar descaling demonstration. The mixture above is the HUVE care recommendation for this guide.

Stage 3: Disinfect with hypochlorous acid (HOCl) (Weekly)

Descaling and disinfection serve different purposes. Vinegar addresses mineral deposits; a suitable disinfectant addresses microorganisms on the bottle’s water-contact surfaces, lid and threads.

The recommendation for disinfecting water bottles is not exclusive to HUVE or Hydrogen Water bottles, this addresses a hygiene concern shared by reusable bottles generally.

If you generate the hydrogen-rich water in the HUVE Perform and then pour the water into a glass for drinking, this significant reduces the frequency that disinfecting is required.

The solution discussed in the H2HUBB video is hypochlorous acid, abbreviated HOCl. It is different from hydrochloric acid (HCl). Do not use hydrochloric acid in your HUVE Perform.

H2HUBB discusses a ready-made 500 ppm HOCl solution. Choose a product labelled for food-contact surfaces and suitable for your bottle’s materials.

An example ready-made HOCI 500ppm solution can be found on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0G6T2J761/

Follow its directions for concentration, wet contact time and rinsing; these vary between products. The brief coating demonstration in the video does not replace the product’s labelled disinfection time.

Keep the solutions separate. Empty and thoroughly rinse away all vinegar before using HOCl. Never mix HOCl with vinegar, bleach or any other cleaning product.

  1. Keep the bottle switched off and disconnected from charging.
  2. Following the HOCl product’s directions, add enough solution to wet the internal water-contact surfaces.
  3. Gently rotate the bottle to distribute the solution, as demonstrated by H2HUBB. Keep the relevant surfaces wet for the full contact time stated on the product label.
  4. Use a cotton bud moistened with the same suitable solution to clean accessible lid and generator threads. Keep liquid away from the charging port and external electronics.
  5. After the required contact time, empty the solution and thoroughly rinse the chamber and treated threads with clean, filtered drinking water, following the product’s rinsing directions.

Do not run cleaning mode or a hydrogen-generation cycle with HOCl inside. Discard all cleaning and rinse liquids before refilling for use.

Watch H2HUBB’s step-by-step HOCl demonstration from 7:29. For general guidance on selecting and using food-contact sanitisers, see Food Standards Australia New Zealand.

Make care part of your routine

Rinse the chamber after use and regularly clean the drinking surfaces, lid and threads. Use filtered drinking water for everyday hydrogen generation and for water-only cleaning cycles.

H2HUBB suggests disinfecting approximately weekly when drinking directly from the bottle, or once or twice a month when consistently pouring into a separate glass. Adjust your routine to actual use and the sanitiser’s instructions. If you notice visible growth, an unusual smell or persistent residue, stop drinking from the bottle and clean it before returning it to use.

Check for mineral deposits regularly and use Stage 2 when descaling is needed. There is no need to use vinegar at every refill.
